NEW DELHI — A sudden explosion inside a tunnel at a hydroelectric power project in India has left at least 12 people dead and 13 others missing, according to reports circulating internationally on Wednesday. Emergency teams are reportedly working to clear debris and search for any survivors who may be trapped deep within the structure.
Multiple news platforms reported that the blast occurred during active construction operations at the site. The cause of the detonation has not yet been officially confirmed, and rescue workers are facing difficult subterranean conditions as they attempt to navigate the damaged passage.
In a separate development, international observers have reported a maritime tragedy off the coast of Mauritania, where a vessel carrying migrants and refugees became stranded. According to reports from other news platforms, more than 140 people are dead or missing after the boat ran out of fuel at sea, while approximately 38 survivors have been rescued.
Meanwhile, reporters around the world have also highlighted a ferry disaster off the coast of Guyana. At least 41 people are feared dead after a vessel capsized, though search and rescue operations have successfully saved 77 individuals from the water.
